Pan Symeou, together with Christian Wasunna of Garden Court Chambers, represented a defendant who pleaded guilty to counts of being concerned in supplying Class B drugs, possession with intent to supply, possession of Class B drugs and possession of criminal property.
The Prosecution’s case was that the defendant was involved in the supply of almost 22kg of cannabis, while further possessing some cash from its sale. The evidence included messages which implied that the defendant urgently needed money and which showed his involvement in an arrangement to sell drugs. The Prosecution alleged that the defendant was linked to a wider operation which sought to sell and distribute a large quantity of drugs across the UK.
Despite such offences usually resulting in an immediate custodial sentence, the defendant received a suspended sentence. This followed the Judge’s consideration of a persuasive Note on Sentence prepared by Mr Wasunna, which disputed the quantity of cannabis the defendant was concerned in supplying and emphasised his lesser role, and a comprehensive mitigation bundle prepared by Mr Symeou. Confiscation proceedings under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 were also not pursued.
